Internet access:- the differences and you, what is going on and Dial-up -v- Broadband.

"But I only use my PC for e-mails and general browsing and it is only 1p/min off peak - I cannot justify Broadband costs."
Some people may be paying more for dial-up than they would for Broadband. The best deal that I know is £11.99/month. At 1p/min (off peak) that equates to 30mins/weekday + 1hr/day weekend.
On dial-up it could take 30mins. to update your Anti-virus and get your e-mails, and as you should be doing the AV update check daily - what! - you don't ????????

The benefits of broadband as opposed to dial-up are many and as time goes on, even more:-
1. You can use your landline telephone at the same time as you are using the internet
2. Speed.  For 30 mins (dial-up) allow 1 min (BB)
3. No waiting to be connected
4. BT are upgrading the SC exchange to 21CN in 2009 (see below)

"BT's strategy to phase out the UK's public switched telephone network (PSTN), replacing it with a multi-service internet protocol (IP) based network which will carry both voice and data services. As well as paving the way for a string of new hi-tech applications"

I do not work for BT and am not affiliated to any ISP!

The first sub-page is SECURITY, without this you can be wiped out, you can wipe out others, have pornography delivered (like it or not), have to pay for costly repairs or service or even get a bill (credit card) without your participation.

Next is MAINTENANCE (disk content) - 99% of users expect the Operating System to look after everything - NOPE.
